Archive for December 2012

Here are the basics:
Tax Increases: $221+105+95+65+18=
TOTAL: $504,000,000,000

Spending cuts: $65+26+11+105=
TOTAL: $207,000,000,000

We need $1,000,000,000,000 in spending cuts, not $2 Billion. The mainstream media says that we MUST avoid the fiscal cliff, but I disagree. If we continue this debt accrual, the entire US economy will fall off a cliff. The debt service alone is 20-25% of tax revenue. Increasing taxes by 20%, current plan, will certainly push us into recession/depression. Government is too big and spends too much.

$221B – Expiration of tax cuts
Expiration of tax cuts and the subsequent growth in the AMT: $221B (36.41%)

Expiration of 2% FICA payroll tax cut: $95B (15.65%)

$65B Other expiring tax provisions
Other expiring tax provisions: $65B (10.71%)

$65B – Spending cuts
Spending cuts (“sequestration”) under the Budget Control Act of 2011: $65B (10.71%)

$26B – Expiration of unemployment insurance

After two weeks of media reports that a .223 AR-15 Bushmaster was found in the trunk of Lanza’s car, gun aficionados point out that the rifle is not a Bushmaster, nor an AR-15 class assault weapon.

“I just want to be absolutely clear. Alright, I don’t want any misunderstanding when you all go home and you are talking to your buddies. ‘He wants to take your guns away.’
I believe in the Second Amendment. I believe in people’s lawful right to bear arms. I will not take your shotgun away. I will not take your rifle away. I won’t take your handgun away,” President Obama said at a campaign event in Lebanon, Virginia in fall of 2008.

I have real problems with the expensive program of putting uniformed guards in schools. It is not only expensive, but, since the guards are readily identifiable, they would likely be the first targets in any attack. Still it is interesting to see how the proposal is greeted by the media depending on who makes it.

One-third of the nation’s elementary, middle and high schools reportedly already have armed security on campus. In 2000, President Clinton marked the one-year anniversary of Columbine by proposing a significant expansion of the government’s existing “COPS in Schools” program. Now that the National Rifle Association’s Mr. LaPierre has made a similar proposal, he is being ridiculed. Why?

Did Clinton’s proposal get this reaction from the media in 2000? Here is a list put together by Alex Pappas at the Daily Caller.

Houston’s ABC News has this story:

The incident happened at a King Foodmart on Homestead near Firnat. From SkyEye 13 HD, a lot of police officers could be seen at the scene, who’ve cordoned off the area with crime scene tape.
A police spokesperson says a suspect tried to rob the store and an employee inside shot him in the chest. The suspect was rushed to Ben Taub General Hospital and is in surgery. . . .

Journalist Alex Jones and Infowars.com are calling for President Barack Obama to issue an executive order amending the Gun-Free School Zones Act of 1990. The executive order will establish the White House, all federal buildings and federal events as gun free zones and all federal security personnel will turn in their guns. We also demand the order apply to private schools such as Sidwell Friends School attended by the president’s daughters. This petition is a response to government and corporate media dismissing a call for armed guards at schools following the Sandy Hook shooting. Jones and Infowars.com believe there should not be a double standard. If the government believes gun free zones are a solution for citizens, the same standard should apply to government servants and employees.
